Description: A definitive line of the landmass of South Africa as can be seen on the SPOT 5 2009 imagery. If the coastline was unclear on the 2009 imagery the previous year's SPOT 5 imagery was used as a reference. This data set does not delineate a high or low ater mark - it is a representation of the South African landmass as observed from the SPOT 5 imagery. Two types of coastlines can be derived from this data set - one for the landmass of South Africa excluding all harbour areas and one for the landmass of South Africa including all harbour areas. These two types can be derived from the attribute values listed in the Line_Type attribute column. The values Coastline and Harbours will provide the landmass of South Africa excluding all harbour areas and the Coastline and Stats Harbours will provide the landmass of South Africa including all harbour areas.
